We tell you all about Watch Dogs Legion online multiplayer and its post-launch content after attending an exclusive Ubisoft event.
There is very little left to enjoy Watch Dogs Legion and everything that this new installment in the Ubisoft hacker saga has to offer. Specifically, it will land on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on October 29, while the Xbox Series X / S turn will arrive on November 10 and the PS5 and Stadia version later. In order to face this final stretch without harboring any doubt about the title, we have attended an exclusive online event to interview Lathieeshe Thillainathan, live producer of Watch Dogs Legion. Below we detail everything he has told us about the online multiplayer mode of the title and all those content that will arrive after the launch.
Watch Dogs Legion: this will be its independent online multiplayer mode
The online mode of Watch Dogs Legion will work differently from the previous two installments of the one that is about to become a trilogy. It has its own distinctive features, since it is a totally independent online experience (something like what happens in the case of GTA V with respect to its Online). Of course, it maintains the functionality of the campaign known as Play As Anyone to allow us to form our own DedSec team online and fight together against oppression.
“Players will have the freedom to explore the London of the near future of Watch Dogs Legion alone or with their friends, recruit anyone and form the best cooperative teams, work together to complete new missions or have fun with new game modes,” they detail. from Ubisoft. To dig deeper into this matter, we asked Thillainathan how these missions will work and if they will be totally separate from the main plot or linked to it in some way:
“It is a dedicated sandbox in itself, so it is a separate world built specifically for online. There we will be able to play with our friends or with anyone who enters the online mode, either to explore freely, carry out missions called ‘assignments’ or other cooperative tasks specially created to encourage players to collaborate with each other ”.
Beyond these modes and missions, already common in the genre of multiplayer online titles, we can find other more revolutionary ones such as “Spiderbot Arena”. In it we will be able to face other players controlling robot spiders in a PvP that as we have seen via gameplay, it will be frantic and fun. In order to clarify all the multiplayer online modes that Watch Dogs Legion will have, we will summarize them here:
- Open world freeroam for 4 players: in this more sandbox mode we can explore London, visit its emblematic places and have fun with parallel activities.
- Quick Ops: this type of mission will allow us to fight against oppression in short missions playable alone and in cooperative.
- New Co-op Missions: With 2-4 players and introducing new co-op mechanics, we don’t know too much about these missions at the moment.
- Tactical Operations: These are missions designed for the 4-player cooperative mode that require great efficiency and communication with the rest of the team.
- Spiderbot Arena: a frenzied, high intensity, all against all combat to the death for up to 8 players in which we will have to control spider robots armed to the teeth and show our mastery.
- Daily and weekly challenges and free rewards.
It should be noted that this independent online mode will not be available at launch, but we will have to wait until December 3, at which time the first major free update to the game will arrive. That is, and to make it clear, the base of the multiplayer online content will be free for all players who have the base game. They have confirmed that they will be adding more modes after launch (also for free) such as Invasion, a new Tactical OPS and new PvP modes to keep this online ecosystem active and nurtured with new content over the months.
Season Pass and other post-launch content
“We are constantly looking at the community to find out what they want to see in the game, so we already have a post-launch content plan in place to surprise our fans and add a fresh touch to the Watch Dogs brand.” says the producer, “At the same time we have left some doors open to see what the reaction of the community is and to be able to adapt to changes during the first year of development of the game.”
On the other hand, what we do know will come as additional paid content is the Season Pass, or season pass, which will be available in Watch Dogs Legion. This includes a story expansion, Watch Dogs: Legion Blood Line, with Aiden Pearce as the protagonist. In it we can discover a new narrative line, as well as a new progression and unique playable functionalities that have not yet been detailed.
One of our surprises during the presentation is the fact that Aiden will be joined by Wrench from Watch Dogs II as a playable character. But it will not be the only one, since we can also unlock Mina, a victim of transhuman experiments who has the ability to control the mind, and Darcy, a member of the Assassin’s Creed brotherhood. “We on the team are very excited to finally bring Aiden and Wrench face to face, as they are two characters that are very much loved by the community,” explains Thillainathan, as well as explaining how the game community has long been asking for a collaboration with the saga of the assassins.
Beyond Blood Lines, all Season Pass owners will unlock 4 playable characters with abilities unique to the main game, including Aiden Pearce, as well as new DedSec missions, an exclusive car skin, and Watch Dogs Complete Edition, the original game from 2014. In the absence of knowing its price and release date, we already know that it will be juicy content that we can access if we go through the box.
Before closing the meeting, the producer of the title recalls that we will have cross-save progression in “the family of Microsoft consoles: Xbox One, Series X and Series S and those of Sony: PS4 to PS5”, therefore that we can move our saved game from one console to another when we get the free update to the new generation of consoles, as well as on PC and Google Stadia. The producer adds that it was quite an experience to have been able to be part of a generation change and to be able to create a game that uses all the functions of the new machines such as ray-tracing, quick-resume and others; “It was like receiving a new toy for Christmas.”
We will be able to discover the result of all this on October 29, when the base game arrives, while we wait for December 3 to arrive to immerse ourselves in the multiplayer field and, as of 2021, we receive with open arms the additional content of the title in the form of DLC and expansions that “will surprise us”, according to Ubisoft.
