Will Power crashed into the tire barriers during Saturday’s second practice at the newly built 2.19‑mile street circuit in Markham, forcing a red flag with just over seven minutes left before group running.
Crash details
While the Australian driver angled with the car rolling, he slid wide in Turn 9, missed the turn‑in, and entered the deck‑sand track dust that upset the tires. He was a little shallow on Turn 10 and clipped the right side of his #26 Andretti Global Honda, sending the car into the barriers.
Power described the impact as a “soft‑feeling crash” that left significant damage. He acknowledged the loss of grip off line and the narrow tactical margin on the green street surface surrounding the bump into Turn 10.
Team response
Despite the incident, Andretti Global installed a rapid repair on the main chassis instead of pulling a spare car. Team principal Ron Ruzewski said the loss of track time was costly for a new circuit, but the crew focused on assessment the fastest they could before the 6:30 pm ET qualifying session.
Ruzewski added that the other two drivers, Marcus Ericsson and Kyle Kirkwood, would guide the team through the upcoming qualifying, while he and the mechanics worked to get Power’s car back to peak performance.
Looking ahead
With the car repaired and the day’s session over, Power’s crew now faces a tight window to troubleshoot and confirm the setup before qualifying in the weekend’s final race‑ready test.
