Williams admitted that the new parts delivered at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone failed to generate the expected performance, putting the team’s development agenda back on the table.
Development setback at Silverstone
Team principal James Vowles said the effort to load fresh upgrades into the car fell short of the benchmarks the Grove outfit set for itself, even as engineers worked day and night to fine‑tune the car.
Vowles added that the race exposed not only a shortfall in performance gains but also a growing list of unknowns that now need to be addressed as the team prepares for the next round of races.
He stressed an intention to tackle the gaps over the next seven to fourteen days, hoping these tweaks will unlock further performance once the technical mysteries are solved.
Race results & standings
Williams finished the British Grand Prix in eighth place in the Constructors’ Championship, having amassed 11 points across the first nine rounds.
Drivers Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon recorded 15th and 16th places respectively in the Drivers’ Championship, with six and five points.
The team missed the private testing in Barcelona and arrived at the pre‑season Bahrain events overweight, complicating early development.
Upcoming races and outlook
The Belgian Grand Prix, running from 17 to 19 July, will be the first of the double‑header block before the August summer break, immediately followed by the Hungarian Grand Prix on 24‑26 July.
With renewed focus on the pending upgrades, Williams now looks to convert the identified performance deficits into competitive gains as the season progresses.
