Yuki Tsunoda is eyeing the #66 Honda seat at Meyer Shank Racing for a potential 2027 IndyCar stint.
Strategic Seat Shift on the Horizon
The 26‑year‑old Japanese driver, who has accumulated 111 Grand Prix starts since his 2021 debut, is focussing on the MSR entry currently held by Marcus Armstrong. Tajma Sato’s success from Formula 1 to Indy 500 champions hints that Tsunoda’s bid could garner fresh interest.
Experience Beyond the F1 Grid
Last year, Tsunoda tested a Honda‑powered IndyCar for Chip Ganassi Racing during a promotional run before the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Under six‑time champion Scott Dixon’s guidance, he logged 30 minutes on a 1.3‑mile circuit adjacent to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Despite expressing admiration for American racing, the driver admitted the daunting nature of oval speedways and noted that the two‑hour Indy 500 runs at 200 mph would be intimidating at this stage.
Negotiations Progressing Toward 2027
Meyer Shank Racing co‑owner Mike Shank revealed the team is exploring all comparable talent, stating, “We have not decided anything yet. We’re still vetting folks that are coming along.”
Should Tsunoda secure the turn, his move would follow the footsteps of fellow countryman Takuma Sato, who transitioned from F1 to hold two Indy 500 titles.
