Kyle Kirkwood claims Freedom 250 Grand Prix, reshaping IndyCar standings
Kyle Kirkwood’s victory at the Washington D.C. Freedom 250 Grand Prix snapped Alex Palou’s lead, even though Palou had secured pole and entered the weekend with a 133‑point advantage.
With only three races left in the 2026 IndyCar season, Kirkwood now trails Palou by 91 points. Christian Lundgaard moved from fourth to third after finishing second, narrowing the gap to 19 points behind Kirkwood, while Will Power’s podium return lifted him back into the top‑ten list.
Scott McLaughlin’s bold pass that ended with a collision on the wall cost him two places, sending him to ninth in the standings.
