Aston Martin’s chief designer Adrian Newey has declared that the Hungarian Grand Prix will carry a car upgrade big enough to persuade Fernando Alonso to stick with the team for 2027.
Upgrade Overview
Newey stresses an aerodynamic redesign that rivals the impact of substantial weight loss. The chassis and gearbox frameworks remain fundamentally the same, yet the team has cut weight from both the front and rear. That loss required fresh crash testing and re‑homologation. While the front suspension is untouched, a small revision is noted on the rear.
Alonso’s Expectations
“Alonso’s experience and his feedback are assets,” Newey explained on the Aston Martin website. “He is looking for clear, tangible progress.” If the summer update reaches its targets, the driver will likely remain in the car for another championship.
Current Position and Road Ahead
The 2026 Aston Martin remains overweight and under‑developed, compounded by a Honda power unit that fails to match competitive standards. As the team has yet to release significant upgrades, all hope is on the Hungarian upgrade to bring a notable step forward, rather than incremental gains of a few tenths of a second.
