Blizzard and Netflix announced a brand‑new Diablo animated series during the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony, a statement made by President Johanna Faries.
Blizzard/Netflix Collaboration Announced
The partnership, still shrouded in secrecy, has yet to reveal a release date, studio, or cast, though Blizzard hinted that other flagship titles—World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and StarCraft—might receive analogous adaptations.
Diablo Series Details
From Blizzard’s press release: “After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens.”
The Diablo blog adds: “Sanctuary’s darkness is spreading. Blizzard and Netflix are developing a new animated series set in the world of Diablo, bringing the franchise to a new screen.”
As the series is expected to retell the 1996 classic’s premise, in which a lone hero ventures beneath Tristram to confront the Lord of Terror in Sanctuary, it could introduce Diablo’s rich lore to a broader audience beyond consoles and PCs.
BlizzCon 2026 and Beyond
BlizzCon 2026, the first following Microsoft’s 2023 $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, also showcased other flagship launches such as a new open‑world StarCraft title and Overwatch’s upcoming hero Doctrine, slated for later this year.
Because development for all projects—including the animated series—remains in early stages, additional details are expected but not imminent.
