Blizzard announced a new entry in its flagship action RPG series—Diablo 5—at BlizzCon 2026, setting a Spring 2029 release window for the title.
BlizzCon Reveal
The conference rollout included a cinematic teaser that illustrates a post‑apocalyptic world where Sanctuary lies in ruins and Diablo has already won. Designer Joe Shely explained that players no longer fight to save Sanctuary; instead, they navigate a landscape that has fallen under Diablo’s control, stripped of towns and safe havens.
Design Vision
Senior producer Tiffany Watt added that this shift alters survival strategies, power choices, and sacrifice thresholds. She confirmed that the game will explore how characters adapt when the world is already lost, a premise that may define Diablo 5 as the series’ darkest chapter yet.
Broader Slate
Blizzard also confirmed additional releases: a September 15 Nintendo Switch 2 port of Diablo 4, a StarCraft title slated for 2030, and the next Overwatch hero, Doctrine, arriving with Season 5 in October. This cluster of launches underscores Blizzard’s focus on maintaining momentum across its flagship franchises.
With Diablo 5 still set for a future launch, fans can anticipate more details from the upcoming BlizzCon panel later this weekend.
