Blizzard announced that the new Overwatch hero Doctrine will debut in Season 5 on October 6 2026.
Doctrine’s Arrival & Trailer
The hero, revealed during BlizzCon 2026, enters the game with a limited‑time Hero Trial running from September 12 to 14, available both in‑event and at home. Doctrine appears in the Breakout trailer as a vampire Support who heals, damages, and deploys mechanical bat drones. The trailer also highlights Doomfist’s survival of an assassination attempt and his uneasy alliance with Sombra, helping secure Doctrine’s release from prison.
Map & Story Context
Alongside Doctrine, Blizzard introduced a brand‑new playable Escort map called Watch Point Grimsvotn. Set in an Icelandic prison that holds the vampire hero captive, this map’s narrative ties directly into Talon’s story, culminating in the conclusion of Act III: The Reign of Talon during the Season 5 update.
Season 5 Lineup & Character Reworks
Season 5 will not only roll out Doctrine but also finalize major character changes announced at BlizzCon. Sombra officially descends into the Support class from her former Damage role, marking one of the update’s most significant shifts. Roadhog receives an overall rework yet remains a Bruiser Tank, resisting class transitions. Additionally, the update reintroduces DokiWatch, a comic‑series‑inspired storyline likely to excite long‑time fans.
The full slate, shared on Blizzard’s X account, features familiar faces and fresh heroes such as Doctrine and Domnia, giving players ample reasons to dive into the new season on October 6.
