King Willem‑Alexander will hand the trophy to the winner at the Dutch Grand Prix, becoming the first royal to formally present a prize at a national sporting event.

While the king and queen have frequently appeared at the circuit since 2021, those visits were personal. This time, the ceremony will be carried out in an official capacity, underscoring the event’s growing prestige.
Contract Extension and Event Outlook
In 2024, Formula 1 and Dutch Grand Prix organisers secured a one‑year extension that commits the race to the 2026 calendar. The private promoter will not extend beyond that, opting instead to finish on a high note with contests in 2025 and 2026 before the circuit exits the schedule in 2027.
Robert van Overdijk, director of the Dutch Grand Prix, said the privately run operation must balance opportunity against risk, choosing to “go out on a high” with the final two years. He acknowledged Stefano Domenicali and Formula 1’s crew for their pivotal role.
Race Calendar Details
The 2026 weekend will unfold from 21 to 23 August at Zandvoort, featuring a sprint–race format that limits practice to a single hour. The past four champions—Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Oscar Piastri—have already stamped their names on the circuit in successive years.
