Christian Lundgaard will pilot the #9 PNC Bank Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing in 2027, stepping into the seat left by 25‑year‑old champion Scott Dixon.
CGR replaces Dixon with the Danish driver, adding to a lineup that now features reigning champion Alex Palou and newcomer Kyffin Simpson.
CGR’s Strategic Move
“I appreciate his approach to driving; it’s clinical and shows real study of the craft,” Ganassi said, highlighting Lundgaard’s oval work and a Milwaukee podium where the driver outperformed CGR teammates.
“Seeing Alex Palou’s dominance has driven me to learn from the best,” Lundgaard replied, noting that joining a team with 18 championship wins feels like a dream.
Lundgaard’s 2026 season included two wins, five podiums in the first 11 races, a third‑place championship finish, victories at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course and Road America, and a first oval podium at Milwaukee.
When Arrow McLaren announced his departure mid‑season, Lundgaard kept his focus, turning uncertainty into results that secured CGR’s interest.
Sitting beside legends and learning from the sport’s benchmark, Lundgaard’s transition signals a new chapter for both driver and team, as the Danish racer prepares to refine his craft against IndyCar’s finest.
