GTA 6’s November 19, 2026 launch may bar it from this year’s Game Awards nomination, the cutoff falling only a month before the ceremony.
Eligibility Window
Australian actress‑turned‑game‑journalist Alanah Pearce revealed that The Game Awards historically cut off eligibility around November, close to GTA 6’s release.
She cited the 2025 voting timeline, which began on November 4 with nominations announced on November 17. If 2026 follows suit, the title would miss the window.
Should the event keep its schedule, GTA 6 would be required to await next year’s consideration, potentially placing it against another Santa Monica Studio entry.
Voting Schedule
Geoff Keighley, the awards’ creator, has hinted at the possibility of extending voting into early December to include late‑comer games.
Rockstar North co‑head Ron Nelson estimates an 80‑hour playthrough for GTA 6, which would leave jurors little time if voting capped on November 25.
An early‑December timetable would let jurors finish the game before the December 10 ceremony, but confirmation has yet to arrive.
Competing Titles
Even if eligibility rules hold, other 2026 releases such as 007 First Light and Control Resonant could contest for Game of the Year.
GTA 6’s dramatic scale alone does not guarantee a win, and the awards’ focus will likely shift to several strong entries.
Ultimately, a reshuffled voting window could keep GTA 6 in contention. Otherwise, the iconic launch will push the game into next year’s race for the top accolade.
