GTA 6 will give players a fully functional car trunk, a feature long overdue since L.A. Noire.
How the Trunk Works
The vehicles of protagonists Jason and Lucia will feature working trunks that hold both apparel and armaments. Players can switch outfits on the fly and stash weapons even while in pursuit, regardless of the current 6‑star wanted level.
Historical Roots and Game‑World Impact
Rockstar’s 2011 title L.A. Noire first introduced a trunk‑based dressing system, a mechanic that was noticeably absent in GTA 4 and GTA 5. Red Dead Redemption 2 offered a parallel in its horseback saddle storage for outfits and gear. The new trunk is an evolution of those earlier systems, adapted to modern vehicular gameplay.
With the GTA 6 map set to three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2’s, encounters with law enforcement will be far more frequent. Early playthroughs are projected to reach 80 hours, meaning players will need to rely on the trunk for rapid wardrobe changes during high‑speed chases.
