Steve Smith’s departure to Richard Childress Racing in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series leaves the No. 38 seat open. Garcia, who races part‑time for ThorSport Racing, will step into the role immediately.
2026 Performance Highlights for Garcia
Garcia finished the 2026 season with 100 starts, a milestone for a rookie. He captured his first Truck Series victory at Bristol Motor Speedway, the fastest track on the calendar. Despite his success, the No. 38 team did not advance to the playoffs, while FRM’s dual entries made the Chase that year.

General Manager Jerry Freeze said the team “is excited to have Jake join us.” He cited Garcia’s Bristol win, race‑winning skill, and “personal motivation” as reasons to keep the team competitive. Freeze noted that FRM has proven its equipment can win on any track and that the organization “confidently reaches for the top.”
Smith’s Transition and New Opportunity
Smith will use the 2026 season to prepare for a move to a higher series before aligning full time with RCR’s Truck program next year. The No. 38 from 2027 will continue to run a Ford F‑150, with the same crew chief Bob Jenkins staying on to provide continuity.
