Legacy Motor Club has officially announced Josh Berry as the driver of its No. 42 Toyota for the 2027 NASCAR Cup season.
Team Expansion and Departures
Berry will join teammates Erik Jones, No. 43, and Riley Herbst, No. 84, as the team moves to three full‑time entries. Legacy is also parting ways with John Hunter Nemechek, whose exit was confirmed last week.
Wood Brothers Racing has appointed 2024 NASCAR O’Reilly champion Jesse Love to pilot the No. 21 Ford next season. Berry’s departure from the Wood Brothers marked the end of his stint there.
Unparalleled Consistency After Exit
Following the news of his exit, Berry has recorded six straight top‑ten finishes, becoming the first Wood Brothers driver since 1976 to do so. He has also climbed eight places in the standings over the past weeks.
During the 2025 season, Berry captured his first Cup win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The 35‑year‑old has five victories in the NASCAR O’Reilly Series and was the 2017 champion of the CARS Late Model Stock Tour.
Career Path to 2027
Berry’s Cup debut came in 2021 with Spire Motorsports. In 2023, he filled in for Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman at Hendrick Motorsports and also made two starts for Legacy Motor Club, finishing 34th at Michigan and 22nd at Daytona in the No. 42 he will take over.
He secured a full‑time Cup seat in 2024, driving No. 4 for Stewart‑Haas Racing and the Wood Brothers No. 21 for two seasons.
2027 Daytona 500 Field
For the 2027 Daytona 500, Legacy will field a four‑car lineup. Team co‑owner and seven‑time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson will drive the No. 48 in what is announced as his final NASCAR start.
