Kratos has been recast for Amazon Studios’ live‑action God of War series after Ryan Hurst suffered a torn bicep during a stunt.
Production Disrupted by Injury
The on‑set accident required Hurst to undergo surgery and forced an immediate halt to filming. Producers assessed whether Hurst could return, but a recovery period of several months conflicted with the established schedule.
According to industry reports, shooting is slated to resume in October 2026, leaving the show months behind its intended release. The pause also jeopardises continuity for Callum Vinson, who portrays Atreus, as his child‑actor status may conflict with the date shift.
Recasting Decision and Future Plans
With Kratos already featuring in completed scenes, the new actor will need to re‑film those sequences. The series will remain structured around the Spartan warrior’s journey with his son to honour the late Faye’s final wish, a narrative that has been set in motion by the original director.
