NASCAR has designated August 18 as Kyle Busch Day, honoring the driver’s twin‑number legacy of 8 and 18.
The announcement rallied fans and teammates alike, prompting a wave of reminiscences about the man known as “Rowdy.” In a video released by Hendrick Motorsports, Kyle Larson reflected on an early-career moment that cemented Busch’s mentorship: “I was racing the Truck Series at Homestead in 2012 and thought I was ahead, until Kyle caught me, passed me, and pointed straight up. He taught me how to run the wall. It was a pure welcome to the league moment.”
Larson later recalled additional Cup‑Series duels, noting that every encounter ended in his own defeat, a testament to Busch’s dominance.
Chase Elliott also shared a formative memory, recalling a super‑late‑model race in Berlin, Michigan when he was about fourteen. “It was one of my first big shows, and I raced against Rowdy. He had the edge, but the battle was full of lessons that shaped my approach on Sunday nights.”
After Busch’s passing, the driver’s final triumph came a few days earlier when he secured the 69th Truck Series win at Dover, marking the end of a storied career across multiple divisions.
Busch’s influence remains in drivers who switch series to keep the competition vibrant, an approach that continues to shape the sport’s future.
