Legendary GT Racer Cedric Sbirrazzuoli Dies at 39

GT racer Cedric Sbirrazzuoli dies aged 39

Cédrics Sbirrazzuoli, 39, died of cancer on 20 August, the day of his birthday, after a career that spanned from early single‑seat classes to Ferrari‑powered GT3 triumphs.

Career Path

His racing journey began in the mid‑2000s with single‑seat series, before moving to GT4, GT2 and the Porsche Carrera Cup. He later contested one‑make titles in the Maserati Trophy and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, attracting the attention of AF Corse.

The partnership with AF Corse opened doors to fielding Ferrari machinery, placing Sbirrazzuoli in the 458 Italia GT3, the 488 and, most recently, the 296.

Competing Across Continents

He raced in the European and Asian Le Mans Series, the GT World Challenge Europe and America, the Italian GT Championship and, in 2024, the IMSA Endurance Cup with Conquest Racing’s #34 Ferrari. His season brought podiums at Daytona and Watkins Glen and a victory at the Petit Le Mans.

AF Corse highlighted his talent in a statement: “You were a highly determined driver, who brought enthusiasm and a passion that is rare. Your race has ended too soon, but your memory will race on forever.”

Tributes from the Circuit

Iron Dames’ Michelle Gatting honored him by reminding fans of fellow driver Luca Persiani, who died in a 2023 accident. “Both of us fought cancer with everything we had, but we could not win the final battle,” Gatting said. She added that their spirits were now together, urging others to “live as fully as we did.”

Ferrari‑Conquest teammate Albert Costa reflected on their partnership: “I have no words for how I feel. We won our final race together, and I know the podium is waiting in Heaven.”

His final racing moments exemplified his drive: from early single‑seat competitions to Ferrari‑backed victories, Sbirrazzuoli’s legacy remains etched on the track, inspiring teammates, fans and future drivers alike.
