Pirelli will deliver the next generation of MotoGP tyres in 2027, each compound marked by a distinct side‑wall stripe reminiscent of the company’s Formula 1 system.
Technical shift under new 2027 regulations
The 2027 rule set brings 850 cc engines, bans ride‑height devices, limits aero tweaks and mandates 100 % non‑fossil fuel. The tyre change is one of the most consequential updates linked to those regulations.
Pirelli steps into the premier class
After supplying Moto3 and Moto2 tyres since 2024, Pirelli announced its MotoGP entry in March 2025. The Italian firm began extensive testing in 2025, first delivering a batch to Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, Honda and Yamaha.
Production and distribution details
Following the Spanish Grand Prix, a second order of 80 tyres per manufacturer was shipped to Jerez. Four months later, in MotorLand Aragon, Pirelli supplied 400 tyres – 80 each for the five constructors – to finish their pre‑season programme ahead of the 1 December Valencia test.
Colour‑coded compounds unveiled
Each tyre now bears a colour that identifies its compound and wetness level. In F1, for example, red represents soft, yellow medium, white hard, blue the full wet and green the intermediate. MotoGP adopts the same scheme, restoring the intermediate tyre that Michelin removed in 2017.
Testing timeline for all teams
Manufacturers tested Pirelli’s ranges privately after the Brno race on 22 June and will share the tyres in the later Austrian session on 21 September. The official Valencia test will disclose the complete 2027 range to every MotoGP outfit.
