Red Bull Swaps Racing Head for Tom McCullough
The Red Bull F1 team has announced the appointment of Tom McCullough, a veteran Aston Martin engineer, as its new head of racing, replacing Gianpiero Lambiase.
Lambiase’s Transition to McLaren
Gianpiero Lambiase will depart Red Bull no later than 2028 to become chief racing officer at McLaren, reporting to team principal Andrea Stella and retaining his dual role as Max Verstappen’s race engineer.
Former Verstappen performance engineer Tom Hart has declined a move to Williams, keeping his position at Red Bull through 2027.
McCullough’s Career Trajectory
McCullough spent four seasons as chief race engineer for Aston Martin before moving into the performance director role, which he held until the end of 2024. A 2025 restructuring saw Mike Krack assume his duties, after which McCullough shifted to non‑F1 projects at Aston Martin Performance Technologies, a role he now intends to leave.
He began his career with chassis builder Reynard and later served stints at Sauber and Williams.
McCullough’s experience across multiple facets of F1 should give Red Bull a fresh perspective ahead of the dynamic 2027 season.
