PHYSINT, Hideo Kojima’s forthcoming espionage title, has just announced its partnership with Xbox, promising a fresh, cinematic spy experience beyond Metal Gear.
New Vision for Spy Gameplay
In a recent KOJI10 podcast, Kojima emphasized that PHYSINT “offers a different kind of spy action.” The 63‑year‑old designer clarified that the game will blend both interactive gameplay and film‑style storytelling, with narrative, visuals, soundtrack and performance crafted for a cinematic effect. “It’s about spies, but I wanted plenty of new ideas,” he said, hinting at a radically altered gameplay loop from his earlier titles.
Broad‑Casted Cast
PHYSINT’s roster already includes Bill Skarsgård as the starring character, likely the player‑controlled spy. Additional actors—Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong‑seok (Don Lee), and Minami Hamabe—will fill supporting roles. “About 70 percent of them are fans of mine,” Kojima told listeners, noting that their enthusiasm stems from generations who grew up with Metal Gear or see his work as their own influence.
Production Momentum
The game’s development has now advanced to an official partnership with Xbox, and filming is slated to begin next year. Kojima described PHYSINT as “the culmination of my 40‑year career,” underscoring how the collaboration will move the project forward at a larger scale than previous ventures.
Upcoming Cross‑Media Projects
Before PHYSINT’s release, Kojima announced several related items, including a movie, an anime, and a game, which will feature cameo appearances by known actors and franchise characters. These media ventures are intended to build anticipation and provide additional ways for fans to engage with the brand.
